Bloomington Youth Action Crew Update

March 2010

There's a Map for That
!
BYAC is currently working on a project to promote youth opportunities and shape a youth-friendly Bloomington. As part of this project, youth from Jefferson High School, Kennedy High School, and Oak Grove Middle School mapped the Bloomington community for positive opportunities for teens. Over 570 youth were surveyed as well as many businesses and community organizations in Bloomington. The purpose of the youth survey was to learn what opportunities exist for youth related to working, volunteering, connecting, and hanging out.

The map is now out in paper and electronic version. It will be "unveiled" on April 17 at the Creekside Community Center fron 4-6 p.m.

"Who Do You Want to Be?" Campaign
BYAC is developing a campaign entitled "Who Do You Want to Be?" for eighth grade students who will be transitioning to high school. As part of this campaign, they will be developing 2-3 public service announcements that promote the importance of making good choices. They will also be presenting to eighth grade health classes in May to offer peer support and provide tips on what eighth graders need to know as they prepare to enter high school.
